My son suffers with chronic streptococcus and has an appointment with a specialist in 20 days. Unfortunately, a basic strep test consistently shows a negative result which requires the culture to be sent out for a more accurate result. This has always come back with a positive result for strep. With the given history of my 8 year old, I was advised after the basic test came back negative that the facility isn’t apt to send out cultures. I was sadly advised that it might be too soon for a positive result. Furthermore, that I should allow it to progress further in order for him to get the medicine he needs from this facility or that I should to take him to the ER. My poor little guy had to waste a couple hours out of the house for nothing to be done. Worse over, I now have to take him out of the house (again)to a different facility that is more equipped to handling this kind of visit. Today’s visit to urgent care left me frustrated but mostly upset that my son is so sick and is going to have to get another strep test from a facility who can send the culture out. Time and money wasted at urgent care today... never ever again.
